Timeline: Being Natural - 10 Months In

Month: 10
Growth: 13 months' worth
Length: 6"

This month, I was officially natural in every sense of the word. My 10 month anniversary came and went and I only realised a few days after the date. I was over the the monthly anniversaries and eyeing my first year anniversary. And I wasn't missing my relaxed hair days either. Instead, I was insanely excited when I was able to rock my first full updo style. It felt like such an accomplishment as I knew for sure that my hair had grown. I also managed to do my first blow out and was pleasantly surprised to see my hair that length. But even then I knew that I'd have to keep my blow drier use to a minimum as my hair got so dry and quite a bit fell off, despite the fact that my hair was detangled, pre-moisturised and I'd used heat protectant on it beforehand.

However, as used to being natural I was, my hair clearly began having different needs to a couple of months back. Flat twist outs weren't looking as hot they used to. Instead, they were coming out as wirey. My hair was also very noticeably drier than it was before so I had to watch my shampoo as it was starting to make my hair feel dry. I decided to buy Tresemme again and try co-washing more often to keep my hair more moisturised.

And wrote this detailed review.

Here are some of the styles I managed to rock:

  4. HI Aisha, Im so glad I found your blog! It is very inspirational. I am Tanzanian as well living in the US and your hair texture looks very much like mine. This friday I plan to start wearing my hair out without extensions for the first time in almost 30 years. Its been hidden in braids for most of my life resulting in thinning of the hairline and lots of breakage. Now Im ready to embrace my God given beautiful hair :-) Wish me luck!
